RECLAIM/RECLAMA LIVE

The Sexual Assault Resource Center of Oregon invites you to join us for Reclaim/Reclama Live: Healing Communities Through Art and Advocacy on Wednesday, April 24th from 5:30-8:00pm at the Portland Community College Rock Creek Campus Event Center. For the past six years, SARC has provided a visual platform to uplift survivor voices through our annual publication of Reclaim/Reclama. This year, we are incredibly honored to showcase additional survivor stories through performance art. Reclaim/Reclama Live is dedicated to empowering survivors, amplifying marginalized voices, and fostering healing through art and advocacy.

Attendees are encouraged to arrive at 5:30pm to enjoy the art walk highlighting our 2024 Reclaim/Reclama magazine submissions. Doors will close at 6pm, when the program begins. The showcase will include a survivor panel to discuss the role art plays in healing, the artist showcase of performance pieces submitted under the 2024 Reclaim/Reclama theme, and a reflection on the importance of community in the process of healing and building a future without violence. Light refreshments will be provided before and after the showcase. Parking is free and will be in Parking Lot C at the Rock Creek Campus. When you arrive, follow the signage at the entrance to receive parking instructions. Confidential advocates will be available throughout the night as well as information on other community resources.

Reclaim/Reclama Live is part of SARC’s ongoing campaign for Sexual Assault Awareness Month- Body, Mind, Community. This year’s theme centers on different elements of healing, from individual journeys to building community. Throughout the month of April, SARC is engaging each aspect of Body, Mind, Community through events, critical conversations, Reclaim/Reclama, and community partnerships. Reclaim/Reclama Live encompasses the spirit of this campaign by holding space for survivors to reclaim their voices and heal through art – Body, highlighting survivor experiences and stories shared during the panel discussion – Mind, and inviting attendees to participate in creating supportive connections for healing – Community. As Sexual Assault Awareness Month comes to a close, Reclaim/Reclama Live encourages the community to join SARC’s mission to eliminate sexual violence and support survivors, no matter the month.

SARC would like to highlight our collaborative partnership with the Outreach and Advocacy Project at Portland Community College and all they have done to help bring this event to life. The Outreach & Advocacy Project works with staff, instructors, and students across PCC to ensure that support is available to ALL students on the topic of relationship abuse, sexual violence, and stalking. This includes one-on-one support, working with other departments as it is helpful, referrals to resources, training, and outreach events for the PCC community, and the development of college wide procedures to further support students. For more information about the Outreach and Advocacy Project and the impactful work they are doing at PCC, please visit https://www.pcc.edu/advocacy/.

We would also like to thank the Oregon Health Insurance Marketplace for their generous support in sponsoring Reclaim/Reclama Live.
