Please help up provide services for survivors of sexual assault.
The Sexual Assault Resource Center is a non-profit organization that relies on community contributions to fund our vital work. We receive grants from the Department of Justice, money from the cities of Washington County, and we hold an annual fund-raiser called Walk a Mile in Her Shoes (more information here). We rely on the support of people in the community to help sustain and improve our programs.

The Sexual Assault Resource Center is a non-profit agency dedicated to providing immediate response and support to sexual assault survivors and to empower them to heal and regain control of their lives. Volunteers are involved in many capacities within the agency and are provided a thorough training to prepare them for their responsibilities.
Volunteer Sexual Assault Advocates are caring, compassionate people with all different backgrounds who are trained to help sexual assault survivors. In their private lives, they are students, teachers, nurses, homemakers, salespeople, retirees, and clerks. What they have in common is their desire to make our community a better place to live by helping someone in need.
Volunteers contribute thousands of hours to the agency each year. Volunteers make it possible for us to provide many needed services to survivors of sexual assault. There are several ways in which volunteers can contribute their time, compassion and skills. Please consider the following opportunities:
This position is the key and central function of our agency. Since 1977, our 24-hour Support Line provides crisis counseling, information, referrals, and resources. Advocates also respond in-person to survivors seeking medical care in local area hospitals, reporting assaults to law enforcement, or needing support through sexual exploitation and trafficking.
Our education and prevention program is specifically designed for middle school and high school students. Volunteers co-present this 9-session curriculum as an open forum for students to learn about sexual assault, boundaries, and personal safety plans.
Inform and assist survivors as they move through the social, criminal, and civil systems. Be a source for referrals and resources for the Latin@ community as survivors navigate the often-confusing systems along their path toward healing. Bilingual / bicultural preferred.
Deliver education presentations and outreach about sexual assault and SARC services. Provide training to business employers and community leaders that will increase survivors’ access to support and services. Bilingual / bicultural preferred.
Help get the word out about SARC programs and services. Host tables at fairs, community events, colleges, and parades, providing much needed information and resources throughout our service area.
Love hosting get-togethers? Throw a party for your friends while raising awareness and funding for our programs and services. We’ll give you everything you need to put together a small event; all you need is a location and some friends, and we’ll help you with the rest!
Get involved by helping to plan our big annual fundraiser where men are sponsored to walk a mile in women’s shoes! Planning begins in the spring and runs through the event in the fall.
Make parent packets for the Education Program, solicit lunches to nourish our volunteers-in-training, or help us monitor local press and mobilize a community response. There are many on-going projects that could use your help!
Do you have unique skills or ideas that would support our programs and service to the community? Tell us what those are! We’re always looking for new ways to collaborate!
